Essex man Rev. Tim Ball has lived for most of his life in the county. Born near Southend, he worked as a firefighter for 15 years with the Essex county Fire and Rescue Service in the operational, legal, and educational departments.
Ordained in 1996, he was curate in the parish of old Harlow, before becoming Vicar of Holy Trinity, Springfield, Chelmsford, then Team Rector of Ambleside and Langdale parishes and now Vicar at Meadgate. Being a convert to Christian faith he enjoys being shaken up by spiritual discovery and thinks it a calling ‘to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable’. He drives a pristine 25 year old Suzuki 750 Intruder motorcycle (which never goes out on wet days) and Formula 1 motor racing is essential viewing on Sunday afternoons. His wildest dream is to drive Richard Noble's Thrust II flat out! ("Never mind the brakes, just give me the throttle!"). This is a man not afraid of living on the edge!
Tim is married to Anita and has two grown up children, Lydia and Evie. Three memorable things about him are:
- He has stood on the top of one of the towers of the QE2 bridge over the river Thames.
- He has given mouth to mouth resuscitation to a horse.
- He has a failed A level in religious studies (unclassified)
